Vietnamese, Japanese localities work to handle environmental issues

NDO - The People's Committee of Can Tho city held a working session with a delegation from Japan's Hiroshima prefecture on May 30 with the aim of connecting the environment enterprises of both localities in the near future.

According to the head of the Hiroshima delegation, Kazuki Matsubara, Hiroshima prefecture has actively shared Japan's latest technologies and scientific achievements on environmental treatment with the world through connecting the prefecture's enterprises in the area of environment to countries which are facing serious challenges from climate change, including Vietnam.

He expressed his hope that Can Tho would act as a bridge to support and develop high-tech models for responding to climate change in other provinces in the Mekong Delta region.

Experts from the Hiroshima delegation familiarised Can Tho leaders with many advanced technology achievements in environmental treatment including organic agricultural production, waste collection and recycling, recycling waste plastics into useful products, gas emission monitoring technology in thermal power plants, and others.

The delegation also noted a key issue in responding to climate change, in that the province should use new technology models to live with and adapt to climate change issues, instead of spending limited resources to fight against it.

Vice Chairman of Can Tho municipal People's Committee Dao Anh Dung said that leaders and enterprises from Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region pay special attention to environmental issues, adding that the linkage with Hiroshima is of great significance to the regional socio-economic development aligned with environmental protection.

The meeting is also an opportunity for Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises to meet and exchange new technologies and scientific achievements related to environmental treatment, Dung said.
