NDO – UDI Maps, a mobile flood-warning application, has been made available in the application stores of iOS and Android operating systems in order to help local people in Ho Chi Minh City avoid flooding.
The app has been developed by the HCM City Urban Drainage Company in the hope of helping the city’s residents to avoid flooding when traveling on the roads.
UDI Maps will also serve as a two-way communication portal between managers and the community with regards to waterlogging and drainage issues in the city.
When using smartphones with this application installed, users will be informed of the current situation, as well as alerts on the possibility of flooding, so they may take preventative measures.
It is also equipped with interactive functions for people to share information about flooding on their travel routes. Managers will rely on this function to gather detailed information and produce a response scenario.
UDI Maps is expected to help HCM City residents avoid flooding while travelling on roads.
On the other hand, people can also rely on the features of traffic guidance and finding ways to avoid flooded routes through the app and then choose the correct route.
According to the urban drainage company, the current information on rain, tide and flood status will be recorded from a system of automatic measurement stations and patrols across the city.
This information is then transmitted to the system for processing and editing before being delivered to users via UDI Maps.
The early flood warning information will then be calculated from the hydropower drainage model based on rainfall forecasts and tides forecasted by the Meteorological and Hydrological Station of the South.
Previously, the UDI Maps was available in the Google Play apps store (for Android devices), since May 17.
