NDO - The central province of Quang Ngai should make effective use of its strengths and potential to successfully realise its set socio-economic development targets.
At a working session on July 16, with the Quang Ngai provincial Party Standing Committee, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan hailed the achievements that the Party Committee, authorities and citizens of the province have made in socio-economic development over recent years.
The NA Chairwoman suggested that the province focuses on developing heavy industry as a key economic sector, along with promoting agriculture and animal husbandry, which are the areas in which the province has an advantage.
She also asked the province to focus on a rapid, firm and sustainable development strategy, while also effectively addressing any issues which may arise in development, industrialisation, urbanisation, infrastructure development and human resource training for industrialisation.
The province should also to pay greater attention to building infrastructure and implementing social welfare and security policies for mountainous areas, she noted.
At the meeting, Secretary of the Quang Ngai Party Committee Le Van Chu briefed the NA Chairwoman on the province’s socio-economic performance for the first six months of the year, as well as the directions for the latter half.
In particular, the Dung Quat Oil Refinery and many factories in Dung Quat Economic Zone and the VSIP Quang Ngai Industrial-Urban-Service Complex have become the driving force for development, contributing positively to shifting the economic and labour structure. Socio-economic infrastructure continues to be improved while the poverty rate has been reduced remarkably, especially in mountainous districts.
To mark the 70th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers Day (July 27), Quang Ngai has invested more than VND17.7 billion to repair and upgrade 18 memorial sites, VND20 billion to help build 500 houses for policy beneficiaries, and over VND32 billion to support policy beneficiary families and those who rendered service to the country’s revolutionary cause
