NDO – Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly (NA), Esteban Lazo Hernandez, led a high-ranking NA delegation in a visit to Ben Tre province on June 17, as part of his ongoing official visit to Vietnam.

At a reception for the delegation, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Cao Van Trong, briefed the guest on the district’s current socio-economic development situation, as well as discussing the coordination among the local Party Committee, administration, NA delegation and political and social organisations.

For his part, Esteban Lazo Hernandez expressed his thanks for the warm and sincere welcome the Cuban delegation received from the Ben Tre authorities, as well as from the Vietnamese Party, State and people.

He highly applauded the socio-economic achievements seen in Ben Tre and took the opportunity to extend his best wishes to the local authorities and its people.

Speaking at the reception, Politburo member and NA of Vietnam Vice Chairwoman, Tong Thi Phong, stressed that the visit, made by the top Cuban legislator to Vietnam, is of significance as it illustrates the traditional solidarity and friendship, as well as mutual political trust, between the two countries.

Vietnam and Cuba have shared the common goal of national liberation and socialism building and their traditional bilateral ties have been maintained and promoted, she said.

Earlier, the Cuban legislator and his delegation attended an inauguration of the Moncada preschool in Luong Hoa commune, Giong Trom district.

Luong Hoa commune was twinned with Cuba in 1983, with the name “Moncada Village” through a decision issued on January 8, 1984, by the provincial People’s Committee. Meanwhile, the Hinba Bonita cow farm in Moncada was named “Ben Tre village”. The two villages are symbols of the solidarity between the two nations.

During his stay in Ben Tre, Cuban NA Chairman, Esteban Lazo Hernandez, also visited and offered incense to female general Nguyen Thi Dinh, at her memorial site in Giong Trom district, as well as visiting Luong Quoi Coconut Company, at An Hiep industrial park in Chau Thanh district.
