NDO - President Tran Dai Quang announced the appointment decisions on 22 new overseas Vietnamese ambassadors and chief representatives, who will serve for the 2017-2020 tenure, at a ceremony in Hanoi on June 16.

President Quang noted that the new ambassadors’ tenure coincides with a decisive period in Vietnam’s five-year socio-economic development plan. He therefore requested that the ambassador follow the three key external tasks set by the 12th National Party Congress.

These tasks are; to maintain a peaceful and stable environment whilst garnering external support for national development; to resolutely and consistently work to firmly safeguard national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity; and to enhance the country’s position and prestige within the global arena.

The State leader also emphasised the need for coordination between the representative offices abroad and the ministries, agencies and localities at home, in promoting collaboration in trade, investment and science-technology between Vietnam and other nations, seeking promising partners to join the global value chain, while mobilising the support of international organisations for national economic development and social welfare.

The new ambassadors and chief representatives expressed their resolve to fulfil the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people, while helping to promote Vietnam’s position globally.
