Iranian Parliament Speaker begins official visit to Vietnam

NDO - Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Ardeshir Larijani arrived in Vietnam on April 15 to start an official visit at the invitation of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

Ali Ardeshir Larijani was accompanied by members of the Parliament: Mohammad Ashuri Taziani, member of the Presiding Board of the Parliament of Iran; Mohammad Mahmoudi Shahnesin, member of Parliament and member of the Iran-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group; Nazar Afzali, member of the Agriculture Committee; Soheila Jelodarzadeh, member of the Social Affairs Committee; Mohammad Jafari, Advisor and Chairman of the Office of the Parliament; Hossein Panahi Azar, Deputy Minister for Iranian Expatriates' and Parliamentary Affairs; Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iranian Parliament Speaker's Special Aide in International Affairs.

Ali Ardeshir Larijani was born on June 3, 1957. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and mathematics from Sharif University of Technology and holds a master's degree and Ph.D. in Western philosophy from Tehran University. Larijani has published several books on Immanuel Kant, Saul Kripke, and David Lewis.

Dr Ali Ardeshir Larijani was Director-General of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) from 1982 to 1983. From 1984 to 1993, he held various positions as Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs; Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Technology; and Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps IRGC. From 1992 to 1995, he was appointed as Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance and in 1994, he was reappointed as IRIB Director-General and held this position for the following 10 years. He was also the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council from 2005 to 2007, appointed to the position by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He has been the Speaker of the Parliament of Iran since 2008.
