NDO – Vietnam always respects the long-term friendship with Myanmar and wishes to further deepen cooperation between the two countries across all fields.

The statement was made by Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh during his reception for a delegation from Myanmar’s Ministry of Border Affairs, led by Minister Ye Aung, in Hanoi on March 13.

Deputy PM Binh appreciated the socio-economic achievements that Myanmar has made and believes that the national reconciliation and concord in the country would be successful in the near future.

He highlighted the rapid development of the relationship between Vietnam and Myanmar, particularly the establishment of a comprehensive partnership on the occasion of Vietnamese General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s official visit to Myanmar in August 2017.

For his part, Minister Ye Aung gave thanks to Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh for his warm reception, affirming that the two countries have enhanced cooperation in numerous fields, including those of the economy, culture, defence, and security.

During the working visit, his delegation gathered a lot of experience on ethnic affairs from the Vietnamese side, he added.

The two-way trade between the two countries reached US$828.3 million in 2017, a year-on-year increase of 51%. Vietnam is the seventh largest foreign investor in Myanmar with 70 projects worth a total of nearly US$2 billion.
