Ho Chi Minh City, Netherlands enhance bilateral cooperation

NDO – Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City is willing to coordinate with the Netherlands to implement various cooperation activities across many fields, to celebrate 45th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2018.

The statement was made by Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, while receiving Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sigrid Kaag, on February 7.

He emphasised that the Netherlands is one of Vietnam’s special partners, as demonstrated through the strategic partnership on climate change adaptation, water management, sustainable agriculture and food security.

The Politburo member asked the Dutch side to continue supporting Ho Chi Minh City in checking and developing flood mitigation projects, as well as providing design consultants for components of smart city projects.

For her part, Dutch Minister Sigrig Kaag affirmed that the Netherlands will strengthen their cooperation with the City in the fields of the country’s strengths, including water management, agriculture and aviation.

On the same day, the ‘Vietnam – Netherlands business exchange’ programme was held in Ho Chi Minh City by the Netherlands Embassy in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Dutch Business Association in Vietnam Edo Offerhaus noted that Vietnam has recorded impressive economic growth over recent years, becoming an attractive investment destination for Dutch enterprises.

The Netherlands is currently the largest trading partner of Vietnam in the EU, as well as the biggest EU investor in Vietnam with the total investment at over US$8 billion.
