NDO – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked for more responsibility from Vietnam’s ministries and sectors in implementing the cooperation projects between Vietnam and Laos.

The Government leader made the request at a meeting with the Vietnam – Laos Cooperation Committee and relevant ministries and sectors, which was held in Hanoi on January 13, to review the bilateral relations in 2017 and devise the directions for 2018.

He applauded the functional Vietnamese ministries, sectors and businesses for closely coordinating with their Lao counterparts in celebrating the 55th founding anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam – Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

He stressed that in 2018, the two sides will bolster their bilateral cooperation in all fields, with priority given to electricity and developing Vung Ang port in Ha Tinh province.

He requested thorough preparations for the 40th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee, which is scheduled this year, with the expected signing of more cooperation agreements and documents between the two sides.

He affirmed that Vietnam will continue its support for Lao socio-economic development for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Vietnam currently ranks third among the countries and territories investing in Laos, with 276 licensed projects which have a total registered capital of US$5 billion. Many of the projects have been put into operation and are highly appreciated by the Lao Government.
