Lao leader begins Vietnam visit

NDO - General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos, Bounnhang Vorachith, arrived in Hanoi on the morning of December 19, starting an official friendly visit to Vietnam.
The three-day visit is made at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and President of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang.
The Lao top leader is accompanied by Khamphan Phommathat, Politburo member, Secretary of LPRP Central Committee and Head of the LPRP Central Committee Office; Sonexay Siphendone, Politburo member and Lao Deputy Prime Minister; Kikeo Khaykhamphythoun, Secretary of LPRP Central Committee and Head of LPRP Commission for Education; Vilay Lakhamphong, Secretary of LPRP Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Defence; among other high-ranking officials.
Bounnhang Vorachith was born on August 15, 1937 in Savannakhet province. He took the post of Prime Minister from 2001 to 2006, before being elected General Secretary of the LPRP at the party’s 10th congress in January 2016.
