NDO - Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Herminio Lopez Diaz has been awarded the medal for peace and friendship between peoples by General Secretary of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Don Tuan Phong.

At an awarding ceremony on September 13, Phong said that the outgoing Cuban ambassador has made significant contributions to strengthening the friendship between the peoples of Vietnam and Cuba during his tenure.

Since assuming the job as the Cuban top diplomat, Herminio Lopez Diaz has worked closely with VUFO and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Society to promote the solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

His tenure in Vietnam has witnessed many important events concerning bilateral relations, including the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2015, the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference for Solidarity with Cuba in 2015 and the 40th anniversary of the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s visit to Quang Tri in 2013.

Phong expressed his belief that the Cuban ambassador would continue to promote the Vietnam-Cuba relationship in any role he takes on in the future.

For his part, Cuban Ambassador Diaz said he was moved by the sentiments of VUFO, the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Society and the people of Vietnam towards him and the Cuban people in general.

He also expressed his sincere gratitude to Vietnam for its deep sympathy with the Cuban people over the significant damage caused by Hurricane Irma.
