NDO - Today the people of Vietnam and Laos are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty on Amity and Cooperation.
Together with this event, the two countries are also celebrating the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Both are significant events, marking a new milestone in the history of Vietnam-Laos relations while also affirming its historic significance to the development of the bilateral relationship in this new period.
Geographical and historical proximity has brought Vietnam and Laos closer together for generations. During the wars against foreign aggressors, as well as during periods of national construction and defence, the two countries have always stood side by side. The blood and sweat of Vietnamese soldiers and experts blends with the sweat and blood of Lao soldiers and people becoming an invaluable asset in the hearts of the two countries’ people, a noble symbol of the special solidarity and fighting allegiance between the two countries, a rarity in the history of relations between nations throughout the world.
55 years ago, following the signing of the Geneva agreement on Laos, Vietnam and Laos established diplomatic relations, opening a new chapter in the bilateral relationship. On July 18, 1977, the two countries signed the Treaty on Amity and Cooperation on the foundation of the Vietnam-Laos special solidarity, the unity in fighting and the unshakable friendship between the people of Laos and Vietnam, the great comradeship between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP), which had been nurtured for decades of fighting together and cooperating in national construction. This document laid down the legal foundation for the development of relations between the two countries, fostering a closer and more trustworthy relationship.
The Vietnamese people always remember and are sincerely grateful for the huge, valuable and effective support provided by the Party, State and people of Laos, to the Party, State and people of Vietnam during the struggle for national independence in the past, as well as the current process of national construction and defence.
We are pleased that after the vicissitudes of history, the time-honoured friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Laos, established by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane, has been assiduously cultivated by generations of the two countries’ leaders so that today the relationship has become increasingly stronger, more extensive and substantive in all areas of cooperation.
The Vietnam-Laos special solidarity has become an invaluable asset of the two countries, a vital relationship in the protection of national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and socialism building in each country, making active contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.
The people of Vietnam and Laos cheerfully participate in the celebratory activities currently taking place in each country during the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year, considering it a highly significant event in reinforcing and promoting the time-honoured friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation relationship between Laos and Vietnam, while also affirming this as an important factor in ensuring the development of each country during their respective reform to improve the standard of living.
As a close friend and comrade of the LPRP and Lao people, the Vietnamese communists and people sincerely congratulate the Lao people on the significant achievements recorded by in recent decades under the leadership of the LPRP, strengthening Laos’s position on the international stage.
We always support and firmly believe that under the LPRP’s leadership, the Lao people will continue to record new and even greater achievements in economic reform, national construction and defence, effectively realising the resolution of the LPRP’s 10th Congress, successfully building a socialist-oriented Laos of peace, independence, democracy, unification and prosperity.
The Party, State and people of Vietnam aspire to do their best, together with the Party, State and people of Laos, to always safeguard, promote and pass on to younger generations the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
May the time-honoured friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation relationship between the two Parties, States and peoples last forever!
