Significant preparatory step towards 12th National Party Congress

NDO - After eight working days, the 13th plenary meeting of the 11th Party Central Committee concluded on December 21 with the completion of all tasks on its agenda - an important preparatory step towards the 12th National Party Congress.

The meeting discussed major issues including feedback on documents to be presented at the 12th National Party Congress, personnel for the Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat and the Central Inspection Commission, and working and voting regulations at the 12th National Party Congress.

The Party Central Committee praised the participation of Party congresses at all levels in the refinement of Party documents, thanked National Assembly deputies, the Vietnamese Fatherland Front, senior leaders, members of the intelligentsia and Vietnamese people both at home and abroad for their constructive feedback on Party documents.

These documents are truly a product of the efforts of the entire Vietnamese Party and people, having candidly pointed out existing weaknesses and drawbacks - in addition to highlighting achievements - in the implementation of the 11th Party Congress resolution. These documents also give forecasts about domestic and international situations in the years to come and work out measures to continue accelerating the Doi Moi reform.

Through in-depth discussions, the Party Central Committee affirmed the necessity to step up the fight against corruption and wastefulness, build a strong Party, and fine-tune and strictly implement mechanisms to control power and prevent the abuse of power.

The meeting agreed that in the past five years, the Central Committee, the Politburo and the Secretariat have drawn up an agenda appropriate with the real situation to lead the country to overcome difficulties and challenges, recording many significant achievements. In the spirit of criticism and self-criticism, the Central Committee also highlighted the weaknesses and drawbacks in the implementation of the Party’s guidelines and drew useful lessons for future improvements.

The Central Committee unanimously approved a list of candidates for the Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat and the Central Inspection Commission of the 12th Party Congress. Current Central Committee members also announced their nominations for the four key posts, including Party general secretary, State president, prime minister and National Assembly chairman. The Party Central Committee’s 13th meeting concluded with success, a significant preparatory step towards the 12th National Party Congress.

In his closing speech, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong asked the Central Committee members to show a sense of responsibility and implement the delegated tasks in a serious manner to help make the upcoming Party Congress a success.

The Party Central Committee appealed to the entire Party, army and people to build on the outstanding achievements from the over the 30 years of Doi Moi and endeavour to record more excellent achievements to celebrate the 12th National Party Congress.
