Laos is a country with thousands of years of history, the Lao people proved their courage and resilience when they stood up against foreign invaders, liberating the country and establishing the Lao People's Democratic Republic on December 1975.
Over the past four decades, particularly in the three decades of the renewal process initiated by the the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the Lao people have gained many significant achievements, bringing with it a new face for Laos. Such achievements include stably maintained national sovereignty and territorial integrity; stable social-political situations and defence; high economic growth rate; improved living standards and solidarity of the entire population.
In the current period, Laos is on the process of industrialisation and modernisation and has successfully implemented its five-year socio-economic development plans and developed the people's democratic regime, paving the way towards socialism.
The beautiful and hospitable Land of a Million Elephants is now one of the leading destinations for foreign tourists and investors. Laos attracted 179 foreign direct investments and domestic projects worth over US$3 billion and 335 ODA projects worth nearly US$307 million in the first six month of this year. The inflation rate was curbed at 2.15%. It is forecast that, Laos will reach a GDP growth rate of 7.5% in 2015.
Regarding external relations, Laos has gained many achievements in implementing a peaceful, independent, friendly, co-operation and multilateralisation foreign policy to strengthen regional and international integration. The prestige and position of Laos in the region and on the international arena will further be improved when Laos assumes the role as Chair of ASEAN in 2016, the first year of the ASEAN Community.
On such a significant anniversary of Vietnam’s neighbour and close friend, we must be grateful to President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane and President Souphanouvong who laid the foundation for building the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation between Vietnam and Laos.
Under the leadership of the two Parties, the two peoples have supported each other and stood side by side to bring victory to the revolutionary cause of the two nations.
The Party, State and people of Vietnam are always aware that every victory in the past struggle for national liberation and in the recent process of national construction and defence is associated with the solidarity and support of the Lao Party, State and people.
We firmly believe that under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party led by the General Secretary and President Choummaly Sayasone, the people of Lao will continue to gain greater achievements in the process of national construction and defence towards a peaceful, independent, democratic, unified and prosperous country.
May the special relations between Vietnam and Laos forever be preserved and developed by the following generations of people of the two countries towards successfully building the socialism in each country for peace, stability, co-operation and development in the region and the world.
