NDO - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasised the need to create favourable conditions for the operations of foreign non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Vietnam to contribute to national development.

The PM made the remarks at a conference on reviewing the performance of the Government Committee on foreign NGOs affairs in the 1996-2017 period, which was held in Hanoi on July 5.

According to the committee, Vietnam currently has relations with more than 1,000 NGOs, including 500 NGOs conducting regular activities in Vietnam which provide annual aid for approximately 3,000 projects.

Over the past 20 years, foreign NGOs have provided Vietnam with non-refundable aid of more than US$4.3 billion.

PM Phuc said that NGOs' financial aid is valuable in such a difficult context, particularly in the areas that Vietnam is in need of support including health, education, war consequence settlement, and climate change adaptation.

The government leader noted that Vietnam has made significant achievements during the past years thanks to promoting its internal strength and mobilising external resources including valuable contributions of international friends and NGOs.

"The Party and State define the partnership with foreign NGOs as part of people-to-people external affairs and the external affairs in general which are closely associated with security and economic external affairs," PM Phuc noted.

The PM asked the concerned ministries, sectors and localities to give heed to the three factors of economics, security and foreign policies in cooperation projects with NGOs.
