NDO - The gross regional domestic product (GRDP) of Thai Binh province in 2017 has increased by 11% compared to 2016, making it one of the three provinces and cities in the Red River Delta region to post the highest economic growth in 2017.

The information was announced by Chairman of Thai Binh provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Dien at the working session with Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, in Thai Binh, on December 21.

Dien noted that 2017 is also the second consecutive year that the province has recorded a two-digit economic growth rate.

In addition, the province reported total budget revenues of over VND13.8 trillion (US$607.2 million) this year, exceeding 40% of the yearly estimate, Chairman Dien added.

At the working session, leaders of Thai Binh province also recommended that the Government promptly approves the master planning on the building of the Thai Binh Economic Zone, while creating mechanisms to support the province in building infrastructure facilities at the economic zone.

The province also asked the Government to allow them to use 50% of the budget surplus in order to pay salaries to civil servants in the 2018-2020 period. In addition, the divestment of State capital is proposed to invest in important projects and the building of infrastructure of the Thai Binh Economic Zone.

Deputy PM Binh praised Thai Binh for its economic outcomes in 2017, while asking the province to outline its specific solutions to achieve the economic growth rate of 9.5% set for 2018.

Binh also requested specific measures to remedy any shortcomings in each sector. He also suggested that the province should continue improving its investment and business environment; enhancing provincial competitiveness; and completing mechanisms and policies in support of enterprises.

On the same day, the Deputy PM also visited Aidi Electric Company and Damsan JSC at the Gia Le Industrial Zone, visited policy beneficiary families in Thai Binh city and presented 100 bicycles to disadvantaged children in the province.
