NDO – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the Mekong Delta province of An Giang to strengthen the realisation of the centrally-invested projects across the province, in the spirit of prioritising those which will benefit people the most.

The PM made the request while chairing a working session with An Giang’s key leaders in Hanoi on December 6 to seek measures to remove difficulties and implement important socio-economic projects in the locality.

He urged the province to focus resources to complete all the socio-economic development targets set for 2017, especially budget collection tasks, whilst finalising the plans for 2018 and proactively implementing them right from the beginning of the year.

He requested An Giang accelerate the restructuring process, especially in regards to agriculture, with a focus on developing high-tech agriculture and large-scale rice fields towards climate change adaptation.

The leader asked the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to support An Giang in taking full advantage of its strength in agriculture.

In addition to farming, An Giang needs to pay attention to developing the tourism and service industries, considering this a growth spearhead, whilst boosting the border economy, he said.

PM Phuc voiced his approval for the acceleration of the Ba Chua Xu spiritual cultural tourism site – Sam Mountain cable car system project, requesting that the implementation of the project be associated with the goal of ensuring national defence and security.

He assigned the Defence Ministry to work with An Giang province in order to define the unused defence land area for socio-economic development purposes, adding that the land will still be prioritised for national defence and security purposes when necessary.
