NA Vice Chairman works with Can Tho city

NDO - A working delegation of the National Assembly (NA), led by NA Vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien, held a working session with the People’s Committee of Can Tho city on August 31.

The session focused on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan in the first months of 2017 and the direction and tasks for the remaining months of the year, the medium-term public investment plan for the 2016-2020 period and the national target programme to build new rural areas, as well as the national target programme on sustainable poverty reduction.

According to Dao Anh Dung, Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Can Tho city, in the first eight months of 2017, the city has achieved 11 out of 13 set targets in economic development for the year, of which two targets have exceeded the plan.

Industrial production value increased by 6.87% over the same period and poor households have been reduced by 1%. There are six new rural communes reaching 100% of the annual plan, raising 26 out of the 36 communes in the city up to new rural standards.

Speaking at the meeting, NA Vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien highly appreciated Can Tho city’s achievement in implementing the socio-economic development targets.

He also urged that Can Tho city should actively implement regional integration in socio-economic development; focus on mobilizing resources for infrastructure development, especially in terms of transport infrastructure.

On the same day, the NA Vice Chairman paid a working visit to Kwong Lung - Meko Co., Ltd., which specialises in producing apparels in Tra Noc Industrial Zone, Binh Thuy District. The company caused a major fire in March, 2017, causing losses of nearly VND 400 billion.
