Funeral held for former NA Vice Chairman Vu Dinh Cu

Nhan Dan – A State funeral was held for former National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Vu Dinh Cu on September 12 in Hanoi.

Delegations from the Party, State, NA, Government and Fatherland Front led by Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat Le Hong Anh, paid tribute to Vu Dinh Cu along with Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan; NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung; Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan and Fatherland Front Vice Chairman Vu Trong Kim.

Former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and former Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Pham The Duyet were also among the mourners at the funeral.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung wrote in the funeral memorial book, 'We deeply grieve the loss of comrade Vu Dinh Cu, a loyal revolutionary soldier, an outstanding son of the nation and a talented scientist who made significant contributions to the cause of national construction and defence'.

Lao Ambassador to Vietnam, Somphone Sichaleune, paid tribute to the former NA Vice Chairman writing, 'Comrade Vu Dinh Cu's death is a loss to the Vietnamese Party, State, NA and people, and also a loss to the Lao Party, State, NA and people. He contributed greatly to strengthening and developing the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation between Laos and Vietnam'.

Former Party General Secretaries Do Muoi and Le Kha Phieu; former Presidents Le Duc Anh and Nguyen Minh Triet; Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; and Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee To Huy Rua, sent wreaths to the memorial ceremony for comrade Vu Dinh Cu.

Vu Dinh Cu will be buried on September 13 at Dong Bon Cemetery in his homeland Dong Xuan commune, Dong Hung district, in Thai Binh province.
