NDO – The first-ever ‘Europe Village’ cultural programme opened at the Ly Thai To Statue Square on May 4, with the aim to strengthen the cultural links between Vietnam and European countries.

The opening ceremony entertained the audiences with performances by French crew Berywarm, Spanish guitarists, and jazz artists from the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, the outdoor stage was dedicated to a performance of a unique stilt walking performance by 50 Belgian artists and a street hockey match by players from the Czech Republic.

Speaking at the opening, Ambassador Bruno Angelet – Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Vietnam, said that the programme, held under the framework of the “Europe Days 2018”, was designed to bring European culture to Vietnamese people.

The presence of the ‘Europe Village’ in Hanoi also represents the good sentiments of the embassies of the EU member states towards the Vietnamese capital city, he said.

The ambassador expressed his hope that the success of the event would provide motivation for the Delegation to continue organising similar activities in the following years.

While highly appreciating the Delegation for hosting the programme, Chairman of Hanoi city People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said that the event created an occasion for Hanoians and visitors to explore the diversity of European culture, thus gaining a deeper understanding of Europe, particularly its scientific and technical advances, as well as its culture, arts and cuisine.

Taking place at Ly Thai To statue Square until May 6, the event offers about 30 on-stage and off-stage activities on various areas, raging from concerts, sports, cultural performances, and fashion shows to creative game for kids and knowledge – stimulating activities.

Visitors to the “Europe Village” are also invited to enjoy various European cuisines or European products presented at the European companies’ booths.
