NDO - The ASEAN cuisine festival opened in Ho Chi Minh City on September 29.

The event, organised by the Women’s Union of Ho Chi Minh City, drew staff from the Consulates General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) nations, as well as union members in Ho Chi Minh City.

The festival began with a number of activities and typical dishes from the ASEAN member countries.

According to the President of the Women’s Union of Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, the festival provided a good chance to introduce the ASEAN people and countries to the city’s people, in addition to honouring the culinary values of Vietnam and the other member countries.

The women’s union also wishes to act as a bridge to contribute to strengthening the solidarity and enhancing the understanding among the bloc’s members, she added.

The event marks the 50th founding anniversary of ASEAN and 22 years of Vietnam’s accession to the bloc.

ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
