Can Tho hosts third international yoga day

NDO – The third International Yoga Day – 2017 was held on June 17, in the Mekong River Delta City of Can Tho, as part of events to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-India bilateral diplomatic ties (January 7, 1972 - 2017) and ten years of their strategic partnership (2007 - 2017).

The event attracted the participation of representatives from local agencies, the leaders of Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, Yoga experts from India, as well as more than 1,500 students and those who love yoga in the city.

Addressing the programme, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee, Le Van Tam, affirmed the close strategic cooperation that exists between Vietnam and India.

He also emphasised that the third International Yoga Day is an important cultural exchange activity, contributing to strengthening the mutual understanding between the two peoples, as well as realising the agreements signed by high-ranking leaders of the two countries.

Over the past few years, Can Tho has received great cooperation and support from India in the fields of agriculture, information and technology, scientific research and human resource training.

Vice Chairman Tam expressed his hope that Can Tho would continue to enhance their cooperation with India, through cultural and arts exchange programmes, as well as welcoming more investors and tourists from India.

Indian Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City, Smita Pant, said that Yoga is fundamental in maintaining a well-balanced mind, a healthy body and healthy thoughts.

She hopes that the International Yoga Day will encourage more Yoga practitioners in Can Tho and the surrounding area.
