NDO – A photo exhibition themed ‘Colours of Vietnamese ethnic groups’ opened in Nha Trang city on April 18 as part of activities to celebrate the Vietnamese Ethnic Groups' Cultural Day (April 19).

A total of 81 photos on display capture the life, daily activities, traditional costumes and portraits of ethnic groups across the country and Khanh Hoa province in particular.

An arts performance was also held on the occasion, featuring songs and dances praising the cultural essence of Vietnamese ethnic groups. There were also performances of traditional musical instruments of the Cham, Raglai and Thai ethnic people.

The events were co-organised by the Literature and Arts Association of Ethnic Minority Groups (LAEMG) and the Khanh Hoa provincial Department of Culture and Sports.

According to LAEMG Chairman Nong Quoc Binh, the two events aim to highlight the Party and State’s care for people from ethnic minority groups and those living in mountainous regions, while calling for preserving and promoting cultural identities, literary and artistic values, languages and scripts, in addition to the costumes and customs of Vietnam’s various ethnic groups.

In response to the Vietnamese Ethnic Groups' Cultural Day, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union hosted a Vietnamese ethnic groups cultural festival at September 23 Park, attracting the participation of more than 1,000 of the city’s youth union members.

The participants had a chance to try making traditional handicraft products, enjoy folk songs and dances, and compete at various folk games of Vietnamese ethnic groups.

51 ethnic minority youngsters who are living in the city were honoured at the event for their outstanding achievements in study and work as well as for their positive contributions to social and voluntary activities.
