NDO – The Ho Chi Minh City 'Ao Dai' (Vietnamese traditional long dress) Festival, held from March 3-17, attracted over 70,000 visitors who were invited to participate in various activities, the organising board announced at the closing ceremony of the festival on March 17.
Speaking at the ceremony, Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of the city’s Tourism Department, said that the festival had received warm appreciation from individuals, collectives, sectors, the city residents and tourists.
The festival succeeded in establishing interaction with the participants through its thirteen major activities staged at outdoor spaces, such as a mass fashion show featuring 3,000 amateur models across Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street, a photo contest and an Ao dai–themed painting competition.
He said that the city’s authorities had selected March 3 to hold the Ao Dai Festival in a bid to make the event a cultural and tourism festival that can attract more visitors to the city while promoting the charm of the Vietnam national costume to foreign friends.
14 individuals and collectives were presented with certificates of merit from the municipal People’s Committee at the event for their contributions to the success of the festival throughout its four editions.
Outstanding Ao dai collections featured at the festival were brought back to the stage at the closing ceremony.
