Bamboo Airways project approved in principle

NDO - Deputy Prime Minister, Trinh Dinh Dung, has signed a decision to approve in principle the Bamboo Airways air transport project at the Phu Cat Airport in the south central province of Binh Dinh.

Accordingly, the project will have a total investment of VND700 billion, invested in by Viet Bamboo Airlines Co Ltd, a subsidiary of property developer FLC Group.

The airline plans to have ten A320/A321 or B737 aircraft by 2023, the minimum number regulated for a local airline.

The airline, which has an approved duration of 50 years, is scheduled to be headquartered at the Phu Cat Airport and aims to become one of the of leading airlines in Vietnam.

The government also assigned the Ministry of Transport to make an appraisal of the project and grant an air transport license for the airline in accordance with the law.

Earlier, the FLC Group signed an agreement to buy 20 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft from Boeing of the US, on the occasion of Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue's visit to the US, on June 25.

According to FLC, Bamboo Airways will operate international flights connecting North-East Asian regions, including Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, Singapore and Thailand, with Vietnamese tourist sites including Quy Nhon, Quang Ninh, Nha Trang, Thanh Hoa, and others, in addition to operating domestic flights.
