NDO - The Vinh Tan 2 thermal power plant in Binh Thuan province has generated 20 billion kWh of electricity for the national power grid since it commenced operations three years ago.

Operator EVNGENCO3 said the first coal-fired power plant in southern Vietnam plays a major role in meeting the energy demands of the region and Binh Thuan province in particular.

Reaching the 20 billion kWh level, as of 30 March 2018, is a significant milestone, especially for a coal-fired power plant.

Since beginning operations, the station has generated about 3-4 billion kWh of power during each dry season, helping to ease the pressure for power supply in the southern provinces during the dry months of the year.

The Vinh Tan 2 plant has also complied with the environmental protection regulations to reduce its impact on the surrounding area. It is frequently open to the public and the local authorities for supervision over its waste treatment efforts.

The power plant has created jobs for 375 local residents and has contributed VND240 billion (US$10.56 million) to Binh Thuan province’s budget annually.
