NDO – The Tokyo Metro Vietnam Limited liability company was launched as a subsidiary of Japan’s Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd. at a ceremony in Hanoi on April 7, with an aim to strengthen Vietnam-Japan cooperation in managing and operating urban railway systems in Hanoi and other cities in Vietnam.

The ceremony was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, Umeda Kunio, and Chief Representative of the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) Vietnam Office, Yasuo Fujita.

The Tokyo Metro Vietnam, which has a total capital of US$4.25 million, is the first subsidiary to be founded abroad so far by the Tokyo Metro over its 90-year history of operation and development.

Addressing the ceremony, Director of Tokyo Metro Company, Yoshimitsu Oku, said that the Tokyo Metro Vietnam is established to provide consultation services for the development, operation and management of the urban railway projects in Vietnam.

It will also help Japan share its experience in operating the system through technical cooperation, and exchanges of human resources and relevant information between the two sides, he added.

Tokyo Metro is the largest subway company in Japan. Currently, the company is collaborating with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to carry out urban railway projects using Japanese technology.
