NDO—The Vietnam National Coal–Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) needs to have a reasonable structure for its development to become a strong economic group in 2017.
A statement to this effect was made by Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung while he was attending a conference held by Vinacomin in Hanoi on January 11 to review its performance in 2016 and determine tasks for 2017.
The Deputy PM highlighted two major tasks that the group needs to focus on: coal mining and trade to ensure national energy security. He also stressed the importance of improving the competitiveness of products and protecting the environment, contributing to the country’s socioeconomic development.
Vinacomin must be a key State-owned enterprise in ensuring the supply of coal for the country’s economy as well as enhancing coal exports to ensure the competitiveness of the products, he added.
Deputy PM Dung asked Vinacomin to be more active in coal mining and imports to meet the requirements of domestic production. In addition, the group should improve the quality of the exploration of coal and other mineral resources, contributing to setting plans and projects for investment and mining, the Deputy PM noted.
He urged Vinacomin to improve the quality of investment projects, paying much attention to preventing environmental pollution.
It is essential for the group to continue to accelerate its organisational restructuring and review its key products for investment as well as develop high-quality human resources and apply scientific and technological advances to increase productivity and to ensure the safety of workers, the Deputy PM noted.
